Medicaid

The state's Medicaid program provides critical health insurance coverage for 1 in 3 Louisianans, making sure they have access to doctors, hospitals and prescription drugs when they’re needed and that a health emergency doesn’t leave a family facing bankruptcy.

Since Louisiana expanded Medicaid eligibility in 2016 to include low-income adults, hundreds of thousands of people have gained new access to stable health coverage that allows them to go to the doctor, get their prescriptions and stay healthy. But cuts to Medicaid and unnecessary barriers and administrative hurdles can threaten those gains.
