Invest in the future of Louisiana

Thank you again for being a friend of LBP. You have helped us show that investments in Louisiana’s people pay much bigger returns than spending billions of taxpayer dollars on corporate welfare and tax exemptions for businesses that don’t create jobs.

By supporting the Louisiana Budget Project, you will help shape debate about important state issues. You will help inform policymakers and the public alike, about what Louisiana’s budget and spending priorities should be. Without your help, fewer people will get this information.

In 2014, your tax-deductible donation — even $10 per month — will help us move Louisiana toward a prosperous future, one that gives every resident of Louisiana an opportunity to succeed. Visit our donation page to give a one-time donation or set up recurring payments or mail a check to 447 N. Third Street, Baton Rouge, La. 70802.Here’s what you helped us do in 2013.

LBP told the truth about Gov. Jindal’s tax shift proposal

This year, Gov. Bobby Jindal tried to eliminate the state income tax, and Louisiana Budget Project produced the research and analysis that showed it for what it was — a shift of taxes from the wealthiest people and corporations to those who can least afford to pay. The tax-shift proposal would have raised taxes on 60 percent of Louisianans — those earning the lowest incomes.

After Louisiana Budget Project exposed the facts about that proposal it was abandoned on the first day of session.

We want thousands of Louisianans to be able to buy health coverage

State legislators made the wrong choice when they denied 400,000 Louisianans the chance to get health insurance by rejecting Medicaid expansion. Louisiana Budget Project is crunching the numbers to show that accepting federal dollars to expand health coverage to the poorest Louisianans will actually add money to the state budget, help Louisiana businesses, and provide stability for hospitals and their patients.

So, please  sign on to  Louisiana Budget Project’s mission. Your tax-deductible gift of $100, $250, $500, $1,000 — or whatever you can afford — shines a brighter spotlight on important debates in Baton Rouge.
