Louisiana voters will make important decisions about the state’s tax structure when they head to the polls in mid-November. Included among the four constitutional amendments on the Nov. 13 ballot is a proposal to overhaul the way the state and localities collect sales taxes, and a complex restructuring of the way Louisiana families and corporations pay income and franchise taxes.

A new report by the Louisiana Budget Project breaks down the four amendments and explains how households, businesses and government services could be affected.

The election comes during a slow time on the political calendar for most Louisianans. But the decisions voters make could have long-lasting consequences. It’s important for voters to understand their choices, as the ballot language doesn’t always do an adequate job of explaining what’s at stake.
